TIPS FOR THE PASSIVE JOB SEEKER

You may be in a solid place and really enjoy your job and you couldn't think of why you'd want to leave your current role.   That’s certainly a wonderful place to be—and it’s also the best time to keep your eyes open for new opportunities. When you’re settled and stable, you have the freedom to make decisions based on what serves your goals and lifestyles best.  And while all may be fine with your current company, companies can change quickly and in unexpected ways. Management, funding, and staff changes are just some of the fluctuations in company structures that can very well change how you feel about your job.

Company changes can be unpredictable.  So even while you’re satisfied currently, it’s always in your best interest to keep your ears open and passively job search. And there’s no better place to set yourself up for success than Linkedin.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PASSIVELY SEARCH FOR A JOB

You’re letting people come to you.   You may not be actively hunting and applying for jobs.  You’re simply allowing opportunities to knock on your door.  In this current state?  The best thing you can do is to make sure your resume is updated and have it available on a variety of job search websites.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PASSIVE JOB SEEKERS ON LINKEDIN

  1.  Be active on Linkedin.  Make sure to fill out profile and include as much pertinent information as possible.  Your Linkedin profile is your resume!  So make sure to include key accomplishments and relevant information with each role.  Make sure to include any accolades and achievements.  Turn on your feature that lets companies know you’re open to new opportunities
  2. Build on your Network.  Take the time to connect with colleagues on Linkedin.  Continue to connections that make it easier for your profile to be seen.  Recruiters and hiring professionals are always looking to grow their network (Linkedin is a major hiring tool!), so connect with internal recruiting professions at companies that interest you.  Get on their radar!  Same can be said with agency recruiters.
  3. Swap Recommendations.  It’s time to reach out to your network of current and former colleagues and utilize Linkedin Recommendations to strengthen your profile.  These endorsements only help to increase your credibility.
